Medical Qualifications

Mr Richard Field qualified from the Westminster Medical School, London in 1980 and went on to complete further post-graduate training. He was awarded a PhD from Cambridge University in 1988. Mr Field went on to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1988 and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Orthopaedics) in 1994. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (Ad Eundum) in 2000.

Medical Experience

Mr Field has over 30 years’ experience in the design and clinical evaluation of hip and knee prostheses. His current research interests are in the outcome of orthopaedic interventions, the application of healthcare economics to musculoskeletal practice and evaluation of new implants.

He holds an honorary Senior Lecturer post at St George's Medical School, London, was an expert advisor to National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and is the assistant editor of Bone & Joint 360. He is council member of the British Hip Society and the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy. 

Mr Field hosts fellowships for surgeons in training and is regularly visited by surgeons and members of allied medical professions. He chairs conferences, lectures extensively at national and international meetings and has published a number of medical papers.

Mr Field specialises in hip arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), sports hip surgery, joint preserving hip surgery, bone and soft tissue conserving hip replacement, direct anterior approach hip replacement and hip replacement in hip dysplasia. He is available for private patients at Parkside Hospital, The Lister Hospital, Chelsea, London.
